At Gene Bakkum Golf, we believe that to play to your potential you must look at the entire game of golf. Golf instruction is often focused just on the golf swing but the game is measured on score, not the look of your swing. At Gene Bakkum Golf, we have 4 key areas we focus on to build a golf game that can be self-sufficient for our players and show long-term improvement. More Information

FAQ

What if we a golf tournament the same day as class?
If your child has a tournament the same day as the coaching session, you can come to a session at a different time of the day or skip the coaching session without penalty.
How do I know which team I should put my child on?
Each team is created based on experience level, skills and goals.
Will you work on my child's swing?
Yes, the swing is part of the game. We use state-of-the-art video analysis, Flightscope radar tracking, and MySwing 3D Avatar to measure and train technique at the appropriate times during the season, also known as periodization training.
Do you go on the golf course to play?
Yes, we typically play once a month to ensure that the players are mastering the skills from practice - the truest testing ground for improvement.
Do you have a referral program?
Yes, for more information, please call (510) 219-2823.
Do you have an absence policy?
Because there are usually 1-2 Saturdays per month where there are no sessions scheduled, make ups are not allowed. However, at the discretion of the coach, exceptions can be made on a case by case basis.

Joi Pentin
Gene was the best decision I made for my game.
I started seeing Gene after my freshman year on the Cal Women’s Golf Team. That summer he helped transform my game to a new level and brought me back to a place where I fell back in love with the game. I continued to see him throughout my college career.

Coach Gene truly aspires to see his students reach their goals in the game of golf. Under his tutelage, I accomplished my goal of playing golf at a collegiate level, with an athletic scholarship, at Cal State East Bay.

90's Shooter to 1 Hdcp
My biggest improvements have been in course management and my mental game. When I started with Coach Gene, I had trouble breaking 90 and was always upset at myself after rounds. Now, with a lot of help from Coach Gene, I am a 1 handicap and am aiming towards playing Division 1 college golf.
